In my practice as a psychotherapist, I have enjoyed a rich, diverse life from New York City to the wilderness of Alaska. I grew up in Brooklyn New York, attending graduate school and psychoanalytic training in Manhattan. Living in Greenwich Village, the community of arts and alternative culture influenced my personal and professional growth.
In 2011 I opened an office in Eugene Oregon, a short walk from the University of Oregon, where I practice most of the year. In the summer I work in my office in Haines Alaska and provide tellehealth sessions for those at a distance. Since 2003, I have lived with my family in Southeast Alaska in our off-the-grid home on a peninsula bordering one of the deepest fjords in North America. Our home is accessible only by foot or small boat, depending on the tides. This approach is always beautiful, but at its most challenging includes gale-force-winds, ice-cloaked rock and wading through a rising creek.
People seek therapy hoping to discover a way out of emotional distress, relationship, career and creative challenges. Difficulties with transitions inspire people to consult a therapist. Some struggle with loss while others are afraid to risk, for fear of losing love. I will be interested in deeply understanding your experiences, family and social background, dreams, aspirations and efforts to make changes. Together, we can work to find meaning behind patterns and themes in the ways you have been living. I will always be interested in whether you find my thoughts helpful. My goal is to understand with accuracy, the truth of how you feel, what influences your choices and what inspires or holds you back from initiating what you need in order to achieve goals. I look forward to sharing creative approaches to psychotherapy with you.
Some people feel shame and worry that they will be judged as weak, if they work with a psychotherapist. Passionate about de-mystifying psychotherapy and the relational issues we all experience, I produced Shrink Rap, a radio show for public radio station KHNS. The show features acting and analysis of the psychological and emotional reactions we have to everyday life.
